How your card is made
Your message isn’t digitally printed. It’s set in real metal type and
letterpress-printed in our shop — the same way fine cards were made a
century ago. Here’s what happens after you order.
1Set from the case
The typefaces you choose from aren’t a digital menu — they’re cabinets
of matrices in our shop, one drawer per face and size.2Your words, cast in metal on our 1923 Ludlow machine
We hand-set your message and cast each line as a solid metal slug —
your greeting, in metal, ready for the press. This same Ludlow was a
workhorse for the New York Daily News.3Your cast type locked up on the press using traditional techniques
The slugs are locked into a steel frame with wooden furniture,
positioned using leading to your specifications.4Ink mixed by hand
Our red is weighed out and mixed by hand to the exact Pantone
formula, one small batch at a time.5Printed one card at a time
Every card is fed through a vintage press by an experienced printer,
the type pressing your message into the paper the same way every
image on the front is made.6We proof every print and hand pack every order
Before the run, we pull a proof and read it letter by letter. After it,
every card is checked, folded, paired with its envelope, and wrapped in
tissue by hand. The same care that sets your type packs your box —
crafted start to finish in our shop.

there’s no digital proof step — please double-check spelling and dates
before you order. What you see on the card is what we set, cast, and print.
